The purpose of this course is to introduce grade 9 or 10 students to
the use of a computer as a problem solving-tool which they can use as a
personal use life skill. The course is designed to develop and improve
the students understanding of how to use the computer in an efficient
and effective way. It will focus on using a computer as a
problem-solving tool to support learning in all other areas of study.
Students will develop skills in selecting appropriate information
technology tools, and they learn to use these tools to access and
structure information to analyse problems, synthesize ideas, and
justify opinions or values. Computer history, concepts and theory is a
part of the course. An introduction to the World Wide Web as well as
internet searching techniques are covered. An introduction to basic
graphic design, colour scanning, animation and an
introduction to computer programming will also be included. Simple web
page creation will also be included.
