This course is an introduction in engineering, drawing and animation, which allows students the opportunity to explore creatively the power of the computer in the area of design and graphics. Students will learn and practice a variety of techniques and styles exploring the diverse capabilities of the computer as required in occupations ranging from engineering, architectural, interior decorating, fashion design and especially the new fields of 3D animation, special effects and video games creation. Software used in this program include: the industry standard Engineering software AutoCAD, the highly acclaimed animation program 3D Studio MAX, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere, which will be used in this course to create exciting and interesting drawings and animated videos. This course will also provide an opportunity to learn about computer setup, maintenance and configuration as well as photographic enhancement and video production.
The purpose of this course is to introduce grade 9 or 10 students to
the use of a computer as a problem solving-tool which they can use as a
personal use life skill. The course is designed to develop and improve
the students understanding of how to use the computer in an efficient
and effective way. It will focus on using a computer as a
problem-solving tool to support learning in all other areas of study.
Students will develop skills in selecting appropriate information
technology tools, and they learn to use these tools to access and
structure information to analyse problems, synthesize ideas, and
justify opinions or values. Computer history, concepts and theory is a
part of the course. An introduction to the World Wide Web as well as
internet searching techniques are covered. An introduction to basic
graphic design, colour scanning, animation and an
introduction to computer programming will also be included. Simple web
page creation will also be included.
This course provides the student with an understanding of the fundamental tenants of
networking and covers the general concepts involved in maintaining a secure network
computing environment. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be
able to examine, describe general networking fundamentals and implement basic
networking configuration techniques.
In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity and identify the concepts required to recognize and potentially mitigate attacks against enterprise networks as well as mission critical infrastructure.
